Autobiography Huai-su (ca. A.D. 725-785) T'ang Dynasty Ink on paper. Cursive script. Handscroll. 28.3 x 75.5cm Huai-su was born in Changsha in Hunan province; his surname was Ch'ien. His style name was Ts'ang-chen; later he left his family to become a monk, taking the religious name Huai-su. He is most noted for a very rapid cursive style in which all strokes are connected. It is said that his brush strokes are like a startled snake slithering through the grass, and that they contain the strength and fury of the whirlwind and driving rains.
